Thank you to The Write Reads and D.L. Orton for providing me with a copy of this book! I voluntarily leave this review!

The planet is a shallow ruin, home to failing domed ecosystems and mechanical bees. All that remains are two humans and a once human AI. Isabella is dying, but she clings to the desperate hope that her final plan will thwart this bleak future. By sending Diego into the past, she dooms herself, yet gives the world another chance.

Hive is a story that will keep readers engaged, hoping beyond hope that the future told through the introduction is thwarted. The AI Madders will enlighten readers to the effects Diego's time jump has on the timeline, but even one man cannot change everything. But maybe, just maybe, he will change enough. It’s going to be one rollercoaster of a ride for readers, leaving them guessing at what comes next and if anything can even change.

Back in time, readers will be introduced to a younger Isabella. One freshly divorced from a horrible but rich man named David. D.L. Orton has done a fantastic job creating a billionaire tycoon so self-centered and greedy that readers can't help but detest him. David couldn't care less if his company’s assets are used for good or evil, as long as it lines his pockets.

Yet there is Diego, a kind-hearted yet brilliant man, who counteracts David. Diego strives to do all he can to provide for those he loves and will do anything to save them. Even if it means running into a burning building, or sacrificing himself. Then there is Madders, a man who has no idea he may be destined to become an AI. His sole concern is keeping his niece safe and doing what he can to piece together fringe science and create some sort of miracle.

The strength in this novel truly are the characters and the suspense instilled in their well being. Readers will become attached to the main characters, rooting them on and feeling their bonds of family and attachment. When the inevitable horrors occur, readers will be just as stricken as the characters.

Hive is a great read for those who enjoy alternate universes and time paradoxes. I cannot wait to see what else unfolds in the sequel. Just knowing what lurks around the corner for the characters makes the need to know intense. I for sure am going to read D.L. Orton’s other books as I await the next novel.
