The Ignited Moon Blurb
Yatzil is trapped in a peace deal which will increase her queen mother’s influence. Before she can urge her father to break the deal he is murdered. Yatzil knows who did it, but is sent away, leaving her brother to their mother’s manipulations.
The moon ignites before she can mount a rescue, releasing an ancient enemy. Through a dream, Yatzil learns how to defeat this threat, but her brother comes first. If she cannot save her brother, and create a new moon, the only world she has ever known will burn.
The Ignited Moon Book Review
Thank you to Andrew Johnston for providing me with a copy of this book! I voluntarily leave this review!
The Ignited Moon is a book where the lore and world-building are plentiful. However, make sure you can hit the ground running, as the world is complex, with a pantheon of gods, new magic, and a wealth of culture and politics. New terminology and history are woven within the story, with clues to other areas of the world and creatures dropped in along the way. A glossary would be a fantastic addition to this novel
Yatzil is a character steeped in her culture. Her mannerisms and choices are oftentimes influenced by how she was raised, yet there are some aspects of her mother's teachings she rebels against. Yatzil can be a character who makes rash decisions and grows to understand the consequences of them. And while she does her best to undo certain cascading events, sometimes there is no turning back.
Yatzil can become sidetracked, both internally and externally. And while sometimes it makes sense such as when grief surfaces, other times it may lead to confusion for the reader. What she chooses to focus on may shift but there is no mistaking her determination to protect her family and the deep feelings she develops for others.
The Ignited Moon is a plot based book, sending readers on multiple journeys throughout the story and initiating new quests. Priorities will quickly change as challenges and foes arise. Character relationships may seem quick to grow or dissipate, yet keep in mind the plot is in constant motion. The Ignited Moon is a book for those who enjoy high fantasy with a touch of the epic side of the genre.
